Portfolio Engineer, Fleet Remediation Engineering

And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.The Data Center Fleet Remediation Engineering Team is the engineering owner for the remediation projects supporting the AWS data center fleet. The team delivers engineering solutions to modernize the existing fleet of data centers to the latest design standards. This includes supporting new designs/innovations through data center end-of-life, with a focus on project design and implementation, capacity and availability improvement, and optimization of the existing fleet.As a Fleet Remediation Engineering Portfolio Engineer, you are an exceptionally strong communicator, both written and verbally. You will lead multi-discipline, highly technical project teams. You will have experience of working in a complex engineering environment and will have worked as a technical program manager on increasingly complex projects. Your experience includes data center technologies like HVAC, power systems, cable plant, server, or networking. You will generate and maintain enhanced reporting, meaningful KPIs, and process/automation improvements to ensure team efficiency, visibility of the portfolio efforts to critical stakeholders and leadership.You will partner with other engineering teams, operations staff, and project execution/delivery teams regularly. You will make strategic decisions regarding specific projects and overall program direction. You will be capable of connecting long-term strategies with rapid growth patterns of AWS, as well as guide specific operational needs of the business.
You must be adept at identifying and communicating upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks as well as be instrumental in resolving those issues, often cross multiple departmental boundaries to achieve your goal. You must possess a strong sense of organization, communication and team building skill-sets that foster robust working relationships for both internal and external stakeholders.Your responsibilities will include;
- Lead the Fleet Remediation Engineering portfolio for mechanical & electrical disciplines, managing scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.
- Prepare narratives for executive leadership with recommendations which articulate decision points relative to cost, timing, and strategic trade-offs.
- Learn and understand the AWS data center lifecycle specific to Data Center Engineering, globally.
- Provide direct support to Fleet Remediation Project Design Engineers including trainings.
- Interface with internal Fleet Remediation Engineering teams and their partners to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in work-products delivered. Standardize inputs/outputs globally.
- Own and track budgets and internal-program schedules for the Fleet Remediation Engineering Team's scope.
- Create strong end-to-end team processes/mechanisms that include training (buy-in) and validation of success through metrics-based criteria.
- Manage Basis of Design lifecycle management program for the existing fleet of data centers.
- Possess strong engineering judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty.
- Are detail and data oriented.
- Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
- Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design).
- Up to 10% travel expected.
- Experience communicating program status updates to senior leadership.
- Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data centers
- Advanced degree in engineering, business, or related field.
- Previous ownership of fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects
- Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) or Management of Portfolios (MoP) Certification
- Experience with fast track design/DC build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects
