Job Overview We are currently in search of a highly skilled IDMS System Database Administrator (DBA) to become an integral part of our team in a long-term contract capacity. This remote position offers the opportunity to play a vital role in the administration and enhancement of our database systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability... Key Responsibilities • Administer system databases comprehensively across both production and development/test environments, including IDMS version migrations. • Install, upgrade, and maintain IDMS software, incorporating function level upgrades and regular system maintenance. • Provide 24/7 support for critical incidents related to database performance, collaborating with vendors as necessary. • Drive performance tuning initiatives to maximize system efficiency and minimize z/OS CPU costs. • Oversee training initiatives within the managed services team to bolster team competencies. • Lead significant upgrade projects, acting as both Project Manager and Technical Solution Architect for IDMS version transitions. • Support system programming efforts, ensuring robust database security management. • Manage DASD/tape storage and space allocation for effective capacity planning and monitoring. • Engage in disaster recovery strategies to uphold system integrity and reliability. Required Skills • Extensive experience as an IDMS System DBA, with a comprehensive understanding of IDMS utilities and troubleshooting methodologies. • Expertise in SQL fine-tuning and query optimization. • Knowledge of IDMS tools (such as CA and BMC) and familiarity with scripting languages, including REXX and CLIST. • Proven ability to thrive in a service-level agreement (SLA) driven environment, providing continuous support in a large production setting. Qualifications • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, complemented by at least 10 years of pertinent experience. • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in system database administration and incident management.
