We’re looking for a Senior Web API Engineer to lead the development of externally facing RESTful integration APIs that connect our platform to a broad network of partners and third-party developers. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing scalable services, improving developer experience, and shaping how external systems integrate with GoodLeap. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, reliable, and scalable RESTful APIs for external integration.
- Lead API-first development using OpenAPI (Swagger) to drive consistency and clarity.
- Architect service boundaries and implementation patterns optimized for external consumption.
- Deliver robust authentication, versioning, and fault-tolerant APIs aligned with partner needs.
- Collaborate with product and technical stakeholders to define long-term API strategy and standards.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Proficiency with Node.js and TypeScript in a production environment.
- Deep understanding of RESTful API design, including resource modeling and HTTP semantics.
- Experience building externally consumable APIs, including considerations for usability, security, and stability.
- Strong foundation in OAuth2, API keys, and token-based authentication for service integration. Preferred Qualifications Experience
- Proficiency with OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications and developer-facing documentation.
- Experience integrating with Kong API Gateway, including routing, rate limiting, and plugins.
- Deployment experience in AWS, particularly using Amazon ECS for containerized services.
- Familiarity with performance optimization, caching strategies, and observability practices for APIs.
- Passion for clean interface design and external developer experience.
