Bookkeeping Specialist (Part-Time Contract) Location: Remote within the U.S. (Preference for Washington or New York) Start Date: Within 2 weeks Hours: ~20 hours/week to start, with potential to grow into a full-time role within 3–6 months based on client demand and performance Company Overview Mytaxteam is a people-first company based in Seattle, WA, known for our expertise in tax planning and strategy. To meet growing client demand, we’re expanding our services to include bookkeeping. Our clients come from diverse industries—photographers, digital marketers, architects, and consultants—many of whom are solopreneurs operating as Sole Proprietors or S Corps. We focus on practical, forward-thinking solutions that go beyond basic tax compliance. We’re seeking a self-motivated Bookkeeping Specialist to take ownership of delivering timely, accurate financials for a portfolio of 20–30 clients. You’ll be instrumental in shaping this new service, leveraging cloud tools and AI to streamline workflows while working closely with our tax team to ensure every client is fully supported. Key ResponsibilitiesManage Client Bookkeeping

  • Lead bookkeeping for 20–30 small business clients across varied industries, primarily Sole Proprietors filing Schedule C and S Corporations.
  • Set up and maintain financial records using QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Xero.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Client Communication & Relationship Management

  • Proactively reach out to clients to review financials, request open items, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through clear, supportive communication.
  • Translate financial data into meaningful insights for non-accounting audiences.

Reporting & Tax Coordination

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Maintain organized records to support tax compliance and planning.
  • Collaborate with our tax team to ensure integrated, end-to-end service for clients.

Process Improvement & Tech Adoption

  • Identify opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency using technology, including AI tools.
  • Help shape internal processes and contribute to a scalable, high-quality service model.
  • Stay current with evolving tools and workflows to maintain best practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping, managing multiple client accounts
  • Certified in QuickBooks Online and Xero (current)
  • Comfortable managing client communication, timelines, and expectations independently

Proficient in

  • QBO, Xero
  • Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Zoom, Slack
  • Payroll experience (Gusto required)
  • Strong time management, organization, and accountability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred

  • Experience with Washington B&O tax and/or multi-state compliance
  • CPA, Certified Bookkeeper, or related degree in accounting
  • Interest in learning and applying automation and AI tools in bookkeeping workflows
