Oakland Adult & Career Education, a part of the Oakland Unified School District, is seeking a dedicated and passionate Adult Education Hourly Teacher - English as a Second Language (ESL) to join our online team! As an ESL teacher, you will play a vital role in preparing and delivering competency-based instruction to equip adult students with language and cultural proficiencies, enabling them to participate fully in American society and transition to college and career.

About the Role

• Provide high-quality, engaging ESL instruction in an online setting
• Develop and align ESL curriculum with college and career readiness skills
• Foster a supportive learning environment that enhances language fluency and self-esteem
• Integrate English literacy and civics instruction (EL Civics) and facilitate blended learning
• Monitor student progress and submit required data and accountability documentation

Requirements

• Valid non-emergency California teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in ESL
• Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience with adult students, focusing on course planning, instruction, student assessment, and evaluation
• Familiarity with the State Department of Education's English as a Second Language Model Standards
• Master's degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field preferred; TESOL certificate desirable
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire confidence and maintain adequate attendance
