The Opportunity

As a Senior Engineering Manager within Apple Guides, you will lead a talented team of engineers, scientists, and machine learning specialists. Your primary responsibility will be to drive the development and evolution of software systems that continuously capture and interpret changes in the global landscape. This involves translating real-world observations into precise data points, rigorous validation of these insights, and ultimately transforming them into actionable information that enhances the accuracy and relevance of user experiences. This is a pivotal role where you will shape the future of our world-scale map and directly impact how millions of users interact with and understand the world around them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide strong technical leadership and guidance to a team of software engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable solutions.
  • Architectural Design: Translate complex data challenges into robust software architectures leveraging AI, machine learning, and algorithmic techniques.
  • Team Management: Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of the team's technical roadmap, aligning with overall product goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, research, and other engineering groups, to define and deliver innovative features.
  • Innovation & Research: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML, big data, and cloud technologies, and explore opportunities to incorporate them into our products.
  • Code Quality & Delivery: Champion best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Performance & Scalability: Design and implement systems that can handle massive data volumes and scale to meet growing user demands.
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges, ensuring the stability and performance of our systems.
  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong emphasis on back-end systems.
  • 4+ years of experience in a senior engineering management role, preferably managing medium to large teams.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data issues into effective architectural solutions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with AI/ML, Big Data, Web Services, and distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a willingness to learn and adapt.
