We're looking for a skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our team, working remotely on exciting projects that impact Disney+ and Hulu.

About Us

Our group is at the forefront of creating and maintaining proposal and personalization calculations for Disney's real-time video applications, including Disney+ and Hulu. As a member of this team, you'll collaborate across Design, Product, and Data groups to apply AI strategies, drive product personalization goals, and continually enhance operational cycles.

Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to lead proposal and personalization calculation research, development, and optimization for product areas. You'll work closely with Item, Designing, and Article groups to define requirements, manage stakeholder expectations, and meet KPIs for product regions. As an Individual Contributor (IC), you'll also be responsible for setting the roadmap for algorithmic work, driving organization targets in personalization and content proposal, and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Algorithm Development and Maintenance: Use state-of-the-art AI strategies to develop calculations for personalization, suggestion, and other predictive systems. Maintain calculations deployed to production and be the go-to person for explaining methodologies to technical and non-technical groups.
  • Analysis and Calculation Optimization: Perform in-depth analysis on application interactions and client profiles to drive upgrades in key personalization metrics.
  • MVP Development: Develop innovative AI products for new creation features or downstream by production calculations.
  • Best Practices: Maintain existing and establish new calculation development, testing, and deployment guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work with product and business partners to identify and define new personalization opportunities and improve data collection, experimentation, and analysis.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of scientific experience and a Bachelor's degree in Advanced Math, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field of study.
  • 2+ years of experience creating AI models and performing data analysis with Python or R.
  • Proficient in writing production-level, adaptable code (e.g., Python, Scala).
  • 2+ years of experience developing calculations for deployment to production systems.
  • In-depth understanding of current AI (e.g., deep learning techniques), models, and their mathematical underpinnings.
  • Top-to-bottom comprehension of the latest in natural language processing techniques and contextualized word embedding models.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining pipelines (AWS, Docker, Windstream) and designing large data solutions using technologies like Databricks, S3, and Flash.
  • Experience with data analysis and data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker, etc.
  • Understanding of statistical concepts (e.g., hypothesis testing, regression analysis).
  • Ability to measure the complexity of AI issues and a willingness to implement straightforward methodologies for fast, effective solutions as fitting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain how models are used and calculations behave to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Sociology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Production experience with developing content proposal calculations at scale.
  • Production experience with graph-based models (e.g., node2vec).
  • Experience assembling and deploying full-stack ML pipelines: data extraction, data mining, model training, feature engineering, testing, and deployment.
  • Experience with graph-based data workflows like Apache Windstream.
  • Experience designing large data solutions using technologies like EMR, S3, Flash, Databricks.
  • Familiarity with metadata management, data lineage, and principles of data governance.
  • Experience stacking and querying cloud-facilitated databases like Snowflake.
  • Experience with automated deployment, AWS infrastructure, Docker, or similar containers.
