Job Overview

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate engineering capstone courses in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) programs
  • Teach undergraduate coursework, such as Numerical Methods and/or Statics & Particle Dynamics, in traditional classroom and laboratory settings
  • Participate in service-related activities, including serving on the undergraduate curriculum committee and providing course assessment data for ABET
  • Contribute to curriculum and course development, including distance learning classes and e-learning experiences
  • Advise undergraduate student project teams, such as Formula Car and mini Baja

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant/Associate Professor, Educator in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, you will:

  • Develop and teach courses in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publication, and presentation
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide service, including committee work and advising students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to advance the department's research focus areas, including Structural Dynamics, Advanced Manufacturing, Thermal-Fluids Science, Applied and Computational Mechanics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, and Industrial & Systems Engineering

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field prior to the effective date of appointment
  • Possess a strong commitment to teaching and advising undergraduate students
  • Demonstrate potential for scholarly activity and research
  • Show evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in teaching and course development
  • Research experience in one of the department's research focus areas
  • Experience with distance learning and e-learning platforms
