Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Teaching Professor of Soil Science to join our team. This non-tenure-line faculty position is responsible for teaching a range of undergraduate courses in soil science, including Soils 071 – Environmental Sustainability, Soils 101 – Introductory Soil Science, Soils 102 – Introductory Soils Science Laboratory, and ERM 440 – Chemistry of the Environment: Soil, Water, and Air. The successful candidate will have a strong background in soil science and a proven track record in undergraduate teaching, with a focus on active learning approaches and hands-on lab and field experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of undergraduate courses in soil science, including Soils 071, Soils 101, Soils 102, and ERM 440
  • Develop and implement innovative and engaging teaching strategies, including active learning approaches and hands-on lab and field experiences
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Soil Science program in the College of Agricultural Science
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and college to advance the mission of the university
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including advising and mentoring students

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in soil science or a closely related discipline
  • A record that demonstrates excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Experience with active learning approaches and hands-on lab and field experiences
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and belonging

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with curriculum development and program assessment
  • Involvement in research and scholarly activities related to soil science
  • Experience with online and distance education
