Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Centerview Elementary School. As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) in grades K-4. You will work under the supervision of a licensed Special Education staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that are customized and personalized for each student. Your passion for working with students with disabilities, combined with your ability to work effectively in individual, small group, and large group environments, will make you an invaluable asset to our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) under the supervision of a licensed Special Education staff
  • Work with students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders in grades K-4 to provide support and guidance
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to provide support to students and participate in team meetings related to student success
  • Work effectively with an interdisciplinary team and independently to initiate and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills when working with students, families, and community representatives, and when collaborating with school personnel
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Holding a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Completing 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits and/or an AA degree in the area of Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field
  • Receiving a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (available in the Human Resources Office)
  • Training and experience in the use of computers and other technology equipment
  • Ability to act in a leadership role and independently initiate and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills in working with students, families, and community representatives, and in collaborating with school personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders
  • Knowledge of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and how to implement them effectively
  • Ability to speak multiple languages (preferably Spanish or Somali)
  • Experience working in a school setting or with students with disabilities

  • Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and technology
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, frequent bending and/or twisting, and possibly physically restraining students
