Position Overview – What You’ll Do as a Math Tutor

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and adaptable Math Tutor to provide one‑on‑one, in‑home instruction for high‑school students (grades 9‑12). You will become a trusted mentor, designing customized lesson plans that align with each student’s curriculum, learning style, and academic goals. This contract role offers a flexible schedule, competitive hourly rates, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact on young learners.

Core Responsibilities

  • Personalize Learning Plans: Assess each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and preferred learning modalities; craft individualized lesson plans that address gaps and accelerate mastery.
  • Monitor Progress: Administer practice quizzes, evaluate performance, and adjust instructional strategies based on real‑time feedback.
  • Communicate with Families: Provide clear, concise updates to parents or guardians on student progress, upcoming objectives, and recommended practice activities.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Document session details, attendance, scores, and qualitative observations in our secure online portal.
  • Collaborate with the TPAPT Network: Share best practices, attend periodic virtual trainings, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Uphold Professional Standards: Arrive punctually, prepare materials ahead of each session, and adhere to all safety and confidentiality policies.

Essential Qualifications – What We Require

  • Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a closely related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., TEFL, MAT) are a plus.
  • Subject Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in high‑school mathematics, with the ability to teach concepts ranging from foundational algebra to advanced calculus.
  • Tutoring Experience: At least 1‑2 years of experience in private tutoring, classroom teaching, or test‑preparation environments.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities; capable of explaining complex ideas in simple, relatable terms.
  • Interpersonal Savvy: Ability to build rapport with adolescents, families, and the broader TPAPT community.
