Lab Assistant - Remote Laboratory Services

Job Description

The laboratory assistant is responsible for assembling remote specimen collection kits and handling incoming calls from patients, external health organizations, and Mayo Allied Health staff. This role also includes maintaining supply inventory, stocking and receiving shipments, and troubleshooting issues related to specimen collections. The laboratory assistant regularly uses various computer information systems and participates in continuous improvement activities. The Lab Assistant may be assigned additional duties as needed.   • *This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program**

• Individuals hired into this position are required 2 complete 2 years in the role before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, a background in science and 1-2 years medical experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment desired.
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
  • Requires the ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents and infectious agents.

Current MCS/DLMP employees who have been in their current position less than 2 years must submit an early release from their current supervisor with their application.
