Key Responsibilities
As an Experienced and Compassionate Educational Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out written and/or verbal instructional plans provided by certified teachers
- Assisting with academic and learning activities through tutoring, note-taking, modeling, mentoring, duplicating, grading, constructing materials, and general clerical work
- Assisting with control of students through interaction and supervision as directed by certified teachers
- Providing daily and emergency personal care needs of students, including wheel chair movement and positioning, toileting, feeding, and other activities as appropriate
- Carrying out other assigned duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
- At least 60 semester hours of college credit or pass an approved paraprofessional test
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing
- A patient and receptive attitude toward children with special needs
- A professional attitude about the position
- The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students' academic and social/behavioral performance
- The ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of the team
- The ability to effectively and tactfully present information in one-on-one, small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators
- The ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
- The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this role include:
- Ability to lift and/or move more than 50 lbs, including lifting or moving students who are physically disabled and/or adaptive equipment and supplies
- Possession of fine motor skills
- Possession of unrestricted mobility, including the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
- Possession of good visual ability
- Ability to hear in a noisy environment
