Experienced Medical Billing Customer Support Specialist – Remote Opportunity

Overview and Responsibilities

As a Medical Billing Customer Support Specialist, you'll be the first point of contact for new customers, providing support and guidance to patients, referral sources, and employees. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service and support to patients, referral sources, and employees
  • Processing new orders, responding to questions, and resolving issues in a timely manner
  • Collecting co-pays and deductible amounts, conducting insurance verification and eligibility for services/products
  • Conducting patient satisfaction calls and acting as a patient advocate to resolve questions or concerns
  • Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of current products and services, Medicare, Medicaid, insurance regulations, and FDA/DOT and JCAHO guidelines
  • Maintaining accuracy and quality control throughout patient contact and data entry
  • Managing all aspects of initial intake, including answering the phone, receiving faxes, collecting patient and referral source information, and inputting data into our proprietary systems
  • Obtaining authorization and qualification documentation, preparing complete and accurate files for the Billing Department
  • Processing work orders to field locations and coordinating timely fulfillment of products and services ordered
  • Providing product/service information and education by answering questions and offering assistance
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One to three years of related prior work experience in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience in the medical field and administrative record management
  • Strong customer service background
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to interpret a variety of communications in English (verbal, non-verbal, written, listening, and visual)
  • Knowledge of medical billing practices and of billing reimbursement
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and practice discretion and caution when handling sensitive information
  • Medical terminology
  • Multi-tasking and attention to detail
  • Self-motivation, organized, time-management, and deductive problem-solving skills
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness to physicians, location employees, and patients
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands

This role requires:

  • Lifting of 10lbs
  • Extensive hours sitting at a desk, walking, standing, talking, or listening
  • Close vision to small print on computer and/or paperwork
  • Extensive hours working on the computer

Machines, Equipment, and Technical Abilities

You'll need to be proficient in:

  • Email transmission and communication
  • Internet navigation and research
  • Microsoft applications (Word and Excel)
  • Office equipment (fax machine, copier, printer, phone, and computer/tablet)
