When you join arenaflex as a Remote Data Engineer, you become part of a diverse tech organization that values curiosity, craftsmanship, and collaboration. You will work alongside experienced engineers in an open, supportive, and inclusive environment where your ideas matter, your growth is prioritized, and your technical choices are respected. At arenaflex, we embrace the latest technologies, encourage open-source contributions, and invest in continuous learning because we know that great engineers are built through challenge, mentorship, and meaningful work.

This isn’t just a data entry role — it’s an opportunity to architect, code, and ship production-grade systems that touch the digital lives of millions of customers every single day. If you’re looking for an entry-level remote position with the structure, support, and impact of a world-class engineering organization, you’ve found your place on the arenaflex team.

Position Overview

As a Remote Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be a key contributor on our data and platform engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and optimizing distributed data processing and analytics systems that power our core card transaction infrastructure. Your work will directly support high-volume, low-latency environments running on hybrid cloud platforms, helping arenaflex deliver reliable, secure, and scalable financial services to customers worldwide.

Reporting to senior engineering leadership, you’ll collaborate with peer technology and product teams across multiple regions, contribute to proof-of-concept initiatives, and help shape the technical direction of systems that handle billions of transactions each year. This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States, offering flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to grow your career in one of the most dynamic sectors in technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Distributed Systems: Architect, build, and maintain high-performance, distributed data processing and analytics systems that power arenaflex’s card transaction platforms.
  • Create High-Level and Detailed Designs: Develop both the broader architectural vision and the detailed subsystem designs for new features, with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and clean code.
  • Code, Test, and Ship Features: Build production-ready features and work closely with engineers on day-to-day development activities, code reviews, and full software development lifecycle (SDLC) tasks.
  • Prototype New Concepts: Develop proof-of-concept (POC) projects to validate emerging technologies, innovative patterns, and creative solutions before they’re scaled across the organization.
  • Stay Ahead of the Industry: Continuously research, evaluate, and learn industry-leading technologies, open-source tools, and emerging frameworks to build low-latency, distributed systems that keep arenaflex at the cutting edge.
  • Foster a Culture of Innovation: Lead by example in promoting a fun, results-oriented, and experimental culture — one where trying new ideas is encouraged and learning from failure is celebrated.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with peer technology, product, and business teams across geographies to deliver integrated solutions that meet customer needs at scale.
  • Mentor and Guide Peers: Share your knowledge with fellow engineers, provide technical guidance, and help elevate the capabilities of the broader engineering community at arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Programming Experience: A minimum of 2 years of work experience in software design and implementation using Java or Scala.
  • Data Processing Knowledge: Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks, particularly Spark.
  • NoSQL Database Familiarity: Working knowledge of designing, implementing, and operating NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and Elasticsearch.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in distributed data processing and analytics using Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and Spark.
  • Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience building Microservices and working with Service Mesh architectures.
  • Experience with cloud-native platforms and containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and modern DevOps tooling and practices.
  • Experience architecting large-scale distributed data systems with attention to scalability, reliability, security, performance, and extensibility.
  • A clear understanding of various design patterns, threading models, and memory models supported by the JVM and related languages.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To thrive as a Remote Data Engineer at arenaflex, you’ll bring a balanced mix of technical depth, problem-solving curiosity, and interpersonal effectiveness. We look for engineers who are not only skilled coders, but also thoughtful collaborators who can translate complex problems into elegant, maintainable solutions.

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to break down large, ambiguous problems into well-defined components and design clean, scalable solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: A commitment to writing high-quality, performant, and well-documented code that stands the test of time.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and new technologies are constantly being evaluated.
  • Initiative: A self-starter mindset with the drive to identify opportunities for improvement and act on them without waiting for direction.
  • Teamwork: The ability to collaborate across time zones, cultures, and disciplines to deliver shared outcomes.
  • Continuous Learning: A passion for staying current with industry trends, experimenting with new tools, and contributing back to the engineering community.

Career Growth and Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, we believe that your career is a journey, not a destination. That’s why we invest heavily in the professional development of every engineer on our team. From day one, you’ll have access to dedicated time and resources to sharpen your skills, explore emerging technologies, and pursue certifications that matter to your career path.

Whether you want to deepen your expertise in distributed systems, transition into a more architectural role, or broaden your impact by leading cross-functional initiatives, arenaflex provides the mentorship, training programs, and internal mobility opportunities to help you get there. Our engineers regularly contribute to open-source projects, attend industry conferences, and participate in internal tech talks and hackathons designed to spark creativity and connection.

As a remote team member, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of working from home while staying deeply connected to your colleagues through virtual collaboration tools, regular team rituals, and an active engineering community. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where every voice is heard, every contribution is valued, and every engineer is empowered to make decisions about the technologies they use to solve meaningful problems.

Our hybrid cloud infrastructure means you’ll work on systems that span on-premises environments and public cloud platforms, giving you exposure to a wide range of tools, patterns, and architectural challenges. arenaflex also encourages a healthy work-life balance, recognizing that sustained innovation comes from engineers who feel supported, rested, and inspired.
