[Remote] Packaging Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Ryder System, Inc. is a leading company in Logistics and Supply Chain Services. They are seeking a Packaging Engineer to develop cost-effective packaging solutions, create guidelines, and collaborate with various departments to ensure packaging meets customer and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products
- Create cost justification presentations to review with customer
- Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
- Develop sketches specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
- Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
- Maintain returnable container master by supplier
- Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
- Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation
- Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
- Right size required product and research alternative container methods; Maximize material handling efficiency
- Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
- Assist with implementing reusable containers
- Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container versus corrugated, wood, etc
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree Packaging Engineering
- One (1) year experience Packaging Engineering, required
- One (1) year experience working in a team environment, required
- Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
- Mathematics, oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; the ability to sell the vision
- Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast paced environment
- Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management skills
- Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices
- CAD, Access, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Tableau; advanced level
- Data analytics experience utilizing excel for shipment cost saving measures
- Working knowledge of supply chain/ logistics/ transportation, PFEP knowledge is a PLUS
